ThePostpartum Period…

The book from Naomie Karemi KAINGU, regarding the need to honour one’s postpartum period is coming this October

In the final stages of my book, I am looking for postpartum experiences that you feel others need to hear about, to include in this book. Would you like to share? You names can be changed if you prefer

Please email me directly at: info@upendo-doula.com

Hello there! Social media is enabling us to witness what a birth can look like for those in waiting and the ones praying for their own blessings. My current solo book talks about different aspects of the postpartum period and more Ancestral Wisdom that is being forgotten or altered too much because these days everyone you meet is “traditional” or knows “the village”

In my own postpartum I experienced something that cannot be bought nor learned in school. My mother was very intentional in my recovery and it humbled me. She allowed me to simply be and she looked after me like a baby too. She mothered me in my RITE as a mother and it still makes the hairs at the back of my neck stand 🥰

My Postpartum celebration in Mombasa, Kenya 2020

So why did I decide to write a book? I love to pen things down and my head is full of stories to tell naturally :-)). The aim of me writing this book is because I had been asked many times to contribute to articles or newsletters by a variety of doulas, childbirth educators, course creators even (paid of course) and it dawned on me that I could compile the wisdom I already own into a book so that others can benefit and learn too

The stories my maternal grandmother has shared with me… she is my source of wisdom

My maternal grandmother was a traditional midwife. I was blessed enough to interview her in 2020 and have it recorded where she explained why things were done the way they were in the first place. As a doula, many of the things she spoke about made sense to me and also some information was confirmed by the moser research bringing my understanding to a concrete conclusion that; Africans as a people, we have always done certain things.. we just didn’t give them names

So I am looking for your own stories to include in this book so that others can see the variations of experiences that other birthing couples have experienced, dealt with and received. If you are willing to add you’d story too please email me: info@upendo-doula.com

I already have a childloss story to include but please do email me your own stories too, I would love to include as many stories as possible for the readers :-))

So long…

Naomie Karemi
